Bitter Birds debut full length featuring Singer Mayberry on guitar and vocals and David Lujan on drums, vocals and bass organ. Playing music together since around 2004 in their former band Red Leaves, Lujan and Mayberry started this new project as a duo in 2011. Discovering the best way to act as both drummer and bass player for the band, Lujan built a foot pedal organ keyboard to play live and record with. They are now on their second iteration of bass pedal keys and the result can be heard on this album.

about

Originally written by Prince for his semi-autobiographical work Purple Rain released in 1989

lyrics

I'm not a woman
I'm not a man I am something that you'll never understand.
I'll never beat you
I'll never lie
and if your evil I'll forgive you by and by cause...

I would die for you...

I'm not your lover
I'm not your friend
I am something that you'll never comprehend
Don't ever worry
don't ever cry
I'm your messiah and you're the reason why cause...

I would die for you...

I'm just a sinner I am told
bring you fire when you are cold
make you happy when you're sad
make you good when you are bad

about

Bitter Birds Austin, Texas

Bitter Birds “lures the senses in with a brooding, slightly more experimental side of indie pop, which some fans have compared to early Cure – less poppy and more deliciously bleak.” – Laurie Gallardo, Austin Music Minute KUTX 98.9
